Genesee is one of West Seattle’s great residential neighborhoods. All of the dining, nightlife, shopping, grocery and entertainment options in both Admiral Junction (to the Northeast) and Alaska Junction (to the Southeast) are minutes away by car or a lovely summer stroll. Ercolini Playground (at 48th and Alaska) is known for the wide variety of bikes and riding toys donated by area families. View properties along the western ridge of Genesee enjoy panoramic or pocket water and mountain views. Most homes in this neighborhood are nestled along quiet tree-lined streets at the base of a steep eastern climb up to California Avenue. Genesee houses in a wide variety of styles offer homebuyers plenty of options. Quality homes go quick so be prepared to make an offer when they come on the market.
Genesee is the residential area that surrounds the Alaska Junction retail and dining district in West Seattle. Downtown is only minutes away via the West Seattle Bridge. Fauntleroy Way is the main artery that serves as the eastern border for much of Genesee. Apartments, condominium buildings and townhomes are plentiful in this area, including newly constructed communities and conversions. Houses come in all sizes, from small basement ramblers (2-3 beds and a bath) to bungalows, mid-centuries and large moderns. Homes built into east-facing hills enjoy views of the Cascade Mountains, Mount Rainier and Seattle Skyline. Many western view homes see the Olympics and Puget Sound. The year-round West Seattle Farmer’s Market (held Sundays on California between Alaska and Oregon) provides a weekly social and shopping experience for the neighborhood. Genesee is home to a bulk of the new apartment and condo development in the area, including the newly opened Spruce/LA Fitness complex near Trader Joe’s and West Seattle Bowling, and the Whittaker/Whole Foods Market project on the border of Fairmount Park.
